A ARTE DE VIVER
Roche Bobois challenged the renowned Portuguese artist Joana Vasconcelos to reinterpret six pieces from their collection.
Joana Vasconcelos recreated the models edited by Roche Bobois, preserving their original essence while inscribing her identity. Her unparalleled creativity, which highlights Portugal’s artisanal traditions and know-how, redefines the codes of contemporary art.
The six revisited pieces include- two AVA chairs, the Lady B and Nuage armchairs, the Sismic and Cute Cut cocktail tables as well as a composition of the iconic Mah Jong. The collection will be exhibited in the artist’s studio on May 16th in Lisbon as part of the ARCO Lisboa contemporary art fair. The exhibition will travel through several countries in Europe before crossing the Atlantic in December. The works will be exhibited in Miami as part of Art Basel and later auctioned. All proceeds will be donated to the Joana Vasconcelos Foundation, whose mission is to support those who make Art their path.
" Everyday life is my main source of inspiration. My works are conceived from elements, from everyday materials. As a woman and Portuguese, the know-how and materials specific to my culture are essential: the azulejos that dress both the interiors and exteriors of our buildings or the crocheted doilies that are present in all Portuguese interiors, which cover sofas, tables, or televisions. For me, this collection in collaboration with Roche Bobois represents the perfect alliance between Art, Design and Life.“ Joana Vasconcelos
“Roche Bobois is particularly proud to be associated with the multiple talents of Joana Vasconcelos. Her artistic boldness, her creative brilliance and the poetry that emanates from her work gives a new scale of interpretation to our creations, which she diverts and reinterprets with brilliance.
By associating creative work, design and craftsmanship, this collaboration expresses the core values of Roche Bobois.”
