Henrik Thor-Larsen

Danish designer and entrepreneur Henrik Thor-Larsen distinguished himself through a design philosophy shaped by technical innovation and the emerging possibilities offered by new industrial materials. His career, notably enriched by experience in the automotive sector and industrial design, profoundly informed his approach to form, function, and object creation.

With Ovalia, first unveiled at the Scandinavian Furniture Fair in 1968, Thor-Larsen created one of the most iconic works of European futurist design. Instantly acclaimed for its visionary aesthetic and avant-garde character, the chair quickly became a defining symbol of its era. Over the years, it earned its place among the defining icons of twentieth-century design, standing alongside such celebrated creations as Arne Jacobsen’s Egg Chair and Eero Aarnio’s Ball Chair.
