Stephen Burks
Stephen Burks believes in a pluralist vision of design, which includes the full Spectrum of cultural perspectives. He considers craftsmanship an innovative tool in industrial production, involving local artisans in the production process. A graduate of Columbia University and the Illinois Institute of Technology, this committed designer’s Brooklyn-based studio (Stephen Burks Man Made) is renowned for its innovative and inclusive approach. Worldwide, the designer collaborates with non-profit organizations as a product development consultant. Stephen Burks believes design must be able to evolve alongside diverse cultures. As a result, the concept of the Traveler armchairs designed for Roche Bobois leads to two interpretations: one with a “European” essence and the other reflecting an “American” essence.
