Autumn-Winter Trends 2016

The new Roche Bobois collection is unveiled by Nicolas Roche, Creative Director.

What is the inspiration behind the new collection?

Nicolas Roche : The 2016-17 Autumn-Winter collection is inspired by water, the movement of waves, the ocean … The seat of the Odea sofa (designed by Roberto Tapinassi & Maurizio Manzoni) is supple and undulating. It echoes the pattern subtly etched onto the façade of the Moorea collection, evoking a school of fish emerging from the bottom of the sea to the surface of the water – in this case, the façade of the furniture! The silhouette of the Bubble armchair gives the impression of sea sponges, which turns and pivots on itself as though moved by a current in the ocean. And as for the back of the Edito Lounge armchair (designed by Sacha Lakic), it seems to take on the shape of a whale’s tail.

The world of contemporary art has been of equal inspiration to Roche Bobois: recently, the collaboration with the street-artist, Swiz, has given rise to a vibrant collection of textiles, centred around the Grapher sofa, with its matching cushions and rug. Last but not least, we have revisited the classics with Bina Baitel who has taken Haussmann’s classic architectural technique of moulding as inspiration to create the offset motif of the surprising Astragale collection. And let’s not forget about a new chapter in the well-established love story between the world of Couture and Roche Bobois with our exclusive collaboration with Christian Lacroix Maison.

How would you define ‘French Art de Vivre’, personified by Roche Bobois?

Nicolas Roche : ‘French Art de Vivre’ is a taste for beautiful things and the pleasure of using them and sharing them with others: unrestrained creation, finding beautiful materials, both old and innovative, customising products and adapting them to the needs of the client, as opposed to the contrary … in short, it is living in harmony with one’s environment.
