An homage to Sonia Rykiel

The creator of bold, free-thinking fashion, Sonia Rykiel, has passed away in Paris at the age of 86.

Founder of the couture house of the same name since 1968, Sonia Rykiel created the concept of ‘démode’, the idea that clothes should adapt to women and not the other way around. Known and recognised worldwide, Sonia Rykiel knew that her use of stripes and rhinestone lettering would become her signature style.

Sonia Rykiel has always considered home and décor as part of her creative realm. Mixing playfulness with contemporary materials and more classic fabrics, she reimagined the Mah Jong for Roche Bobois in an original and fun way, personalising it with her infamous, large coloured stripes.

Roche Bobois would like to pay tribute to an exceptional woman, both free and flamboyant. A great icon of French design.
