TRIBUTE TO KENZO TAKADA

It is with great sadness that we learn of the passing of Kenzo Takada.

Kenzo Takada was part of the very first wave of Japanese stylists to try their luck in the fashion capital of the world.

In 1970, he organised his first fashion show in the Galerie Vivienne and opened his own women’s fashion boutique. His innovative style, featuring unexpected combinations of Parisian fashion with the colours and poetry of his native Japan, opened many doors for him and led him to success. Since 1971, his international recognition has been undeniable.

In the 1980s, he expanded into men’s fashion, the perfume industry, and various collaborations, always maintaining his sense of audacity and freedom. Kenzo Takada designed an exceptional collection of fabrics and ceramics for Roche Bobois. These creations showcase his signature style through graphic and cultural references: mixing origins, mastering colours, and creating delicate patterns.

To ‘dress’ the Mah Jong modular sofa, Takada took inspiration from ancient kimonos used in the Noh Theatre, re-interpreting their patterns and colours to create fine and sophisticated harmonies. Roche Bobois pays tribute, with great emotion, to the daring designer and man of infinite delicacy that was Kenzo Takada.
