NOVEMBER 2022

WSJ Innovator Awards

NEW YORK

As a long-time supporter and collaborator of rising designers and artists, Roche Bobois is honored to debut a one-of-a-kind collaboration with textile artist Qualeasha Wood on the design of a custom BUBBLE sofa, unveiled for the first time at this year’s WSJ. Magazine Innovator Awards, hosted at the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) on Wednesday, November 2.

The work, titled A Window Seat (but you can sit next to me), aims to step outside traditional narratives to offer new perspectives when reconsidering iconic and innovative designs. Reimagined by Wood, the BUBBLE sofa, one of Roche Bobois’ long-time iconic pieces designed by Sacha Lakic, is woven with a jacquard weave, alpaca yarn, cotton yarn, eco-cotton yarn, and crystal rhinestones.

Qualeasha Wood is a textile artist whose work contemplates realities around black female embodiment that do and might exist. She contemplates ideas such as the body, self-expression, and technology in her practice, all themes expressed in this piece. Textile artist Qualeasha Wood most recently exhibited her work at The Metropolitan Museum of Art, Louis 200, and an upcoming exhibition at MoMA PS1.

In conjunction with the WSJ. Innovators Awards Ceremony, Roche Bobois will host an exclusive event at their flagship Madison Avenue showroom on Monday, November 7, featuring a panel discussion between Qualeasha Wood and WSJ. Magazine Contributing Design Editor Sarah Medford.
